Turns out I like to read. Who knew? So I'm up to like, oh I don't know, 7 books in the past 2 months. If you'd told me a year ago that I would read that many books, like, ever, I would've laughed in your face. But alas, there is hope for us all. Anyway, so today I went to get myself a library card. The process went smoothly, but shortly after making it all official they sent me on my way to fend for myself. And it didn't take long for me to realize that I've forgotten how to use a library. I literally stood in front of a computer and had no idea what to do with the results it gave me, so I ended up getting overwhelmed and leaving with nary a book (notice my new stellar vocab chops?). I just couldn't get myself to ask the desk lady to explain the library to me after I'd just confessed my age on the card application. For all she knew I was new to the area, and for my dignity's sake, I preferred to keep it that way.
I'm pretty sure the last time I used a library for finding a book was in 6th grade, or maybe 9th, when I had a thing for Amelia Bedelia. And you know, Dewey's decimal system is way more complex than it's talked up to be. But what's really sad is that there's all sorts of people in Kory's family who are in the know about libraries and Dewey's crazy system, so I really should be humiliated that I'm confessing this. But it's late, and I'm watching "The Count of Monte Cristo" and stuffing my face with banana muffins, so I'm not. . .

I'm glad you had an easy time getting a library card, but am sad you had trauma with the DD system... I had quite the experience getting (I guess I should say NOT getting) a card in Vegas...it involved a lot of yelling, tears, and me being escorted/banned from the Clark County Library system. Thank goodness I married Chadd and got library rights via him.
Sarah taught me how to do it online, so much easier doing it that way! You just search your book, place it on hold, they call you when it's in. CAKE. I'm glad you are reading.
Who would have thought a library would be so complicated but I would have to agree with you on that. I would be so lost.
I agree with the online thing... I always request my book in advance online and just go pick them up. That way I'm not embarrassed when I have no clue whatsoever how to find a book. And now that you're a reader, you need to get on Goodreads so you can share all your great books with us!
Online is the way to go but seriously, you couldn't look around and figure it out?? It's kindof common sense once you look at the types of letters/numbers at the end of each row.
That's funny, Carlee! Didn't you ever have to use the library in college?
Even though I am a pre-librarian, I almost always just request my books on the library website and then pick them up.
I'm taking a cataloging/classification class right now and yesterday read a massive amount of notes on the Dewey Decimal system. That stuff is complex!
Robin,
Sadly, no. I was a finance major and everything I ever needed could be found online. I know I learned the DD in like elementary, but I can't remember it!
Forget the big library, just come and use my own personal library! I'm getting excited.... maybe we can get you hooked on Harry now! Remember, I've got lots of fun stuff to read!
Ha ha. I friggin LOVED Amelia Bedelia.
So how were those other Vampire books? What are they called? I need a new good read!
Glad to see that you are novel savvy now. Read the Dan Brown books. Lots of people in the family have them. If it makes you feel better, I haven't been in a public library for many years either. I used to use the school library when I was teaching.
im not gonna lie i didnt even read your post hahhaa but i did your cute moms hair the other day and she told me all about your cruise and i am going on the same one (diff cruise line) in march and wanna see pictures and read all about it!!! soo... now you have something else to blog about!!!! :) thanks carlee!! your a cutie!
I'm so glad you found a love for books. Dewey is wack.
I have a friend named Amelia...jealous?!
Just curious what you've been reading and what you like. Maybe I could make some suggestions. Also you should get on to goodreads.com and make me your friend.
i have the same problem. i go to the library once a week with my kids and just read in the childrens pit, i don't have a library card because i don't remember how to check out a book. ooops!!
Oh I need to adopt this habit. I am so not a good reader and always wish I wash. Read extra for me?
